Can You Weld Cast Steel?
Absolutely! Unlike the difficulties with welding cast iron, cast steel is readily weldable without any increased risk of cracking, and it will weld just like regular low-carbon steel. For anything structural, you’ll normally be fine with 7018 electrodes, though if it’s high-carbon cast steel you’re working on, you may need to use a higher-carbon electrode. The only thing to be mindful of is to use a preheat for anycast steels thicker than 0.5 inches or have a medium to high-carbon content.
